Stephen Allinger, Jr.

Attorney

I was born in Albany, New York to a dad who worked in education and a mom who is a family court judge. I spent my falls playing football, summers hiking in the Adirondack Mountains, and winters ice fishing Adirondack lakes. The first time I visited my wife’s family in Anderson, South Carolina, I told a bait store clerk about ice fishing, and he replied; “son, the only thing we use ice for down here is sweet tea.” I have loved the south ever since.

I studied history at Hamilton College in upstate New York where I met my wife. After college, and before attending law school, I led wilderness trips for a company called Overland Adventure and wrote freelance for the Onion News Network.

In 2010 I attended Pace Law School in White Plains, NY on a Law Merit Scholarship. While at Pace, I served as President of the Environmental Law Society and Vice President of the Student Bar Association.

After passing the bar in New York State, I worked as an Assistant District Attorney in Albany County in the Financial Crimes Bureau. There I prosecuted tax evasion and welfare fraud and recovered stolen money for New York State. I then worked as a Senior Attorney in the Bureau of Air and Energy Resources for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). At DEC I was responsible for monitoring polluters and drafting environmental regulations affecting air quality.

In 2018 I moved to Charlotte with my wife and two young sons. I took a job with the Mecklenburg District Attorneys Office where I worked in the Juvenile Unit prosecuting felonies committed by offenders 17 years old and younger. Over my four years serving as an Assistant DA I have prosecuted hundreds of cases ranging from welfare fraud to homicide.

Moving to David Self Family Law has been an excellent transition for me. I believe families are the bedrock of our society, and nothing in the world is more important to me than my family. It has been a privilege learning to be an an advocate for people being denied rights to their loved ones and property from a firm that puts client relationships first and foremost. I strive to bring my skills and experience as a trial court litigator to represent the clients of David Self Family Law.

In my free time (which is closely monitored by my one and three year old sons) I enjoy fly fishing in the Blue Ridge Mountains, traveling, and rooting for the Buffalo Bills.
